Christmas came early, Potterheads! If you are a fan of Harry Potter and don't already have plans on Friday, December 9, you are in luck. Barnes & Noble is throwing a very real, and very free, Yule Ball as seen in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and it is completely open to the public.
Barnes & Noble recently announce the event and according to their website, every one of their locations will be participating. So as long as you live within driving distance of a Barnes & Noble location, you can attend. They also make it very clear that the event is intended for all ages, so don't feel too strange if you wanted to attend as an adult who just wants to have some wizarding fun. Fans are encouraged to dress up and really get into it, so grab your wands and be sure to get your Hogwarts robe dry cleaned before Friday.

The Yule Ball, for those who may not know or may need a slight refresher, takes place during Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and is a tradition during the Triwizard Tournament in the wizarding world. It is a formal dance held on Christmas night during the tournament. The event is kicked off with the Champions Waltz and in the world of Harry Potter, the event is only open to fourth year Hogwarts students and above, though a younger student can attend if he or she is invited by an older student. In the case of the Barnes & Noble Yule Ball, the rules for who can attend are slightly less complicated. If you want to go, you can go. Simple as that.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book and movie in the Harry Potter series and is generally regarded as a very solid, and very significant, entry in the series. The movie made $896 million worldwide, making it a serious hit. At the moment there is a renewed feverish love for Harry Potter related stuff with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is currently dominating at the box office. However, the movie doesn't actually feature Hogwarts or any of the central Harry Potter characters, so this Yule Ball could be just what Harry Potter fans need this holiday season.
The Harry Potter Magical Holiday Ball will be taking place at a Barnes & Noble near you on Friday, December 9 at 7 p.m. The store's official Facebook page mentioned recently that there has been very high demand for the event, so recommend contacting the location you plan on going to in order to see if they have any special instructions. So if Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them didn't quite scratch your Harry Potter itch, or you just want to have some free fun, this free Yule Ball is probably right up your alley.
