A new rumor claims that beloved action hero Jason Statham has joined the ever-growing pantheon that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Coming courtesy of Giant Freakin Robot, who have been proven absolutely right about several claims regarding the recent Marvel outing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Jason Statham will add his name to the comic book movie roster.

Currently, the report has no word on who Statham will be playing in the MCU, but they do suggest that the actor would make a good live-action iteration of Union Jack. There have been several versions of Union Jack in the pages of Marvel Comics, with most of them possessing no superpowers at all. Instead, Union Jack is a man in peak physical condition, with his strength, speed, and stamina being vastly better than any ordinary man. Sure sounds a lot like Jason Statham.

Many have described Union Jack as falling somewhere between James Bond and Batman, and certainly sounds like a role that The Stath could slot into nicely. The earliest version of the superhero did already make his MCU debut, with actor JJ Feild appearing in Captain America: The First Avenger as a member of the Howling Commandoes.

Jason Statham is now well-regarded as an action movie hero, with the actor flying the flag for no-nonsense, violent action outings. Known for kicking, punching, and shooting his way through bad guys in the likes of The Transporter franchise, Safe, Furious 7, The Mechanic series, and Wrath of Man, as well as battling giant sharks in The Meg, Jason Statham would no doubt make a welcome addition to the MCU as the hugely popular franchise continues to inhale every actor in Hollywood.

In the past, Statham has distanced himself from starring in comic book movies saying, “I like old-fashioned type of film. They’ve never offered me a part in one of those and I don’t think the shoes would fit. Or the cape wouldn’t fit.” Should this rumor turn out to be true, Marvel must have found something to change his mind.

Could Jason Statham Be in Captain America 4?

Should Jason Statham join the MCU and play Union Jack, a role that certainly seems the most obvious outcome, the action star could be gearing up to join upcoming Marvel sequel Captain America 4. The timing of Statham signing on (if of course he has done) would fit, as Captain America 4 is currently being put together, with Union Jack often appearing in the comics alongside Captain America.

Captain America 4 will be led by Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who took over the mantle of the First Avenger during the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While plot details remain under wraps at present, adding Jason Statham to proceedings would surely have fans even more excited for the MCU installment than they already are.

Outside of the realm of comic book movies, Jason Statham has several projects in the pipeline. Statham will once again be a part of The Expendables crew in The Expendables 4, fight a shark all over again in Meg 2: The Trench, reunite with director Guy Ritchie for the action-comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and team-up with director David Ayer for The Bee Keeper.
