In true Ryan Reynolds style, has the actor already revealed the plot for Deadpool 3? Following the sudden and hugely exciting reveal that Hugh Jackman will reprise the role of Wolverine in the Deadpool threequel, we cast our minds back to a previous tweet from Reynolds, who seemingly reveals exactly what the meeting between the Merc with a Mouth and Logan will involve. Namely, a road trip.

“It’s critical to have open, honest and healthy discussions around mental health. By retweeting #BellLetsTalk you can make a difference. In case that’s not enough, before Disney bought Fox, Deadpool 3 was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.”

Back in January last year, Reynolds took to social media to first promote the Bell Let's Talk campaign before revealing the general outline for Deadpool 3 before Fox was purchased by Disney. Following the merger, plans for Deadpool 3 were sent up into the air, with no one knowing whether Reynolds’ iteration of the character would ever make his way into the MCU.

Well, we now know that yes, Deadpool will be folded into the MCU, and that Deadpool 3 will also bring Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine. Just as Reynolds had intended. So, with this in mind, has Reynolds already revealed the plot? Even if he has, it’s unlikely there are many who would be averse to seeing Deadpool and Wolverine embark on a Rashomon-style road trip.

For those unaware, Rashomon is a 1950 psychological thriller directed and written by Akira Kurosawa. The murder of a samurai is retold by various people, all of whom have a slightly different perspective on how the crime took place. It's easy to see how this comparison would fit into Deadpool 3, with the very different Wade Wilson and Logan no doubt sharing very different viewpoints on events.

Will Deadpool & Wolverine Be Attempting to Escape the Fox Universe in Deadpool 3?

Despite all this information, the question remains, why would Deadpool and Wolverine head off on a road trip in the first place? Well, here’s an idea, the sequel could reflect the real-world goings-on with the two characters attempting to escape the Fox universe and make their way into the MCU.

With the multiverse now well-established, it would make perfect sense for Deadpool to realize what’s happening, perhaps even making references to the Disney/Fox merger as the universe collapses around him. Thus, Wade hops into a car with Logan, with the duo making their way to a rift in the multiverse and escaping the inevitable.

Not only would this allow Disney to bring Deadpool into the MCU, but it would also give Deadpool 3 the chance to feature all manner of Fox-related cameos from the likes of the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises. Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, anyone? Before concluding with Wolverine sacrificing himself in order for Deadpool to reach the MCU. Cue Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

Directed by Shawn Levy, written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool 3 is now scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
