The combination of Oscar-nominated Hollywood hardman Tom Hardy and The Raid director Gareth Evans is a match made in action movie heaven, and the actor has now revealed a few bits and pieces regarding their upcoming collaboration, Havoc. Describing the Netflix venture as "good high-end face-kicking", Havoc sounds like exactly what fans of the genre had hoped for when the project was first announced back in February.

"It's real genre. If you're gonna do martial arts, then Gareth's your guy."

Tom Hardy is certainly not wrong, with Gareth Evans having proven his affinity for brutal, beautifully scrappy martial arts and gun-fire action with the likes of The Raid and it's sequel The Raid 2, as well as last year's critically acclaimed British crime drama Gangs of London, which transported his penchant for dusty, violent fist-fights to the streets of London.

With Havoc, Hardy plans to do as much of the action sequences as he can, with the actor undergoing an unforgiving training regime in preparation and throughout filming. "Whatever I'm not a liability for," the actor said, with Hardy completing two to three cross-fit workouts a day, plus an hour or so of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, as well as learning the stunt choreography, in order to convincingly take part in a Gareth Evans production. Hardy, who has become well-known for his intimidating physicality is clearly putting his all into Havoc.

Havoc is due to be written and directed by Gareth Evans, and picks up after a drug deal gone wrong, when a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician's estranged son, while unravelling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city. Tom Hardy is of course on board to star as the main character, the downtrodden "bruised detective."

Hardy will be joined on this action-packed adventure by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker and star of Justified and The Mandalorian, Timothy Olyphant. Making up the rest of the supporting cast are Justin Cornwell, Jessie Mei Li, Yeo Yann Yann, Quelin Sepulveda, Luis Guzmán, Sunny Pang, and Michelle Waterson.

Before Havoc hits us between the eyes, Tom Hardy can next be seen in upcoming comic book movie sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Following on from 2018's Venom, which introduced audiences to Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who becomes the host of an alien symbiote giving him a violent alter-ego, Venom: Let There Be Carnage picks up a year later, as Eddie Brock struggles to adjust to life as the host of the alien symbiote Venom, which grants him super-human abilities in order to be a lethal vigilante. Brock attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady, who becomes the host of the symbiote Carnage and escapes prison after a failed execution.

Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, and based on a story she wrote with Tom Hardy who reprises the dual role of both Eddie Brock and Venom alongside Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady AKA Carnage. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is scheduled to be theatrically released later this year on September 24.

Havoc meanwhile does not yet have a release date, but is expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2022. This comes to us from Esquire.
