Jeremy Renner has been playing Hawkeye/Clint Barton in the MCU for over a decade now and recently got his own TV series. A character without any remarkable super-human abilities, Hawkeye still has the grit to face any human or alien threat, no matter how powerful. He is also one of the rare avengers with a family - a responsible husband and father, trying to risk his life to save the world. All this makes Clint Barton one of the most relatable comic book characters and, ergo, a fan favorite.

At a recent press conference, Jeremy Renner declared Barton’s family as the source of his superpowers and called all parents superheroes. When asked by CBR to address Barton’s role as a father in the ongoing Disney+ series Hawkeye, Renner replied,

"There's a wonderful pragmatic-ness to it. I think it really is the anchor and base to where all of his emotional steadfastness and actionability and relatability are for him and what his superpowers are. You don't want to get in the way of any Papa Bear or Mama Bear and their family, 'cause you're gonna go down. I've always thought, look, there's him being a father. I think any parent that's a very involved and amazing parent is a superhero in their own right. It is a tremendous honor and a gift and the most difficult thing I think any human can go through."

We couldn't agree more. Having a wonderful family waiting at home must give Hawkeye some added resolve to fight evildoers. Jeremy Renner himself is a father and takes the role quite seriously. He was even ready to get fired when he told Marvel during negotiations that he wouldn’t budge on spending time with his daughter while filming Hawkeye. The show also incorporates Barton’s paternal proclivities to some extent, as he takes a budding vigilante and his superfan Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) under his wing. Fans are loving Steinfeld and Renner’s onscreen chemistry so far.

Speaking of abilities, Hawkeye isn’t just some guy with a bow and arrow; he's an accomplished spy, a combat expert, and is also called "the world’s greatest marksman." Plus, he’s handy with swords, as shown in Avengers: Endgame, in which Barton takes on the mantle of Ronin to kill bad guys. In fact, it was Swordsman who was Barton’s mentor in the comics. Tony Dalton portrays Jack Duquesne/Swordsman in Hawkeye. Fans will be in for a treat when these two characters come face to face in the show. In Hawkeye, both Duquesne and Barton seem to be the same age, so it’s unlikely their relationship will be a mentor-student one if the show even reveals Duquesne as someone from Barton’s past.

Hawkeye premiered its first two episodes on November 24, 2021. The remaining four episodes will premiere weekly, concluding on December 22. Marvel’s first Christmas-themed show, Hawkeye, is set in the criminal underbelly of New York City and follows Clint Barton’s efforts to get back to his family for Christmas while dealing with a young protege and an enemy from his past. Jonathan Igla (Mad Men) serves as creator and head writer, with Rhys Thomas and Bert & Bertie as directors. Hawkeye also stars Vera Farmiga, Brian d’Arcy James, Florence Pugh, Alaqua Cox, and Fra Fee. Be sure to check out next week’s episode of Hawkeye to witness the long-awaited debut of Echo/Maya Lopez in the MCU.
