It has been something Star Wars fans have been waiting a while to see, but Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have finally reunited after almost two decades as they launched the in-person press tour for the Disney+ Star Wars series of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ever since the pair last faced each other as Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, there have been many teases about their possible return to the franchise, and after a few false starts, the resulting six-part series will make its debut on May 27.

After working on the series together last year, the pair were joined by co-star Moses Ingram and director Deborah Chow as they kicked off the promotional tour in Berlin, as can be seen in images shared by Disney+’s official German Instagram account.

While the new Star Wars series is an Obi-Wan Kenobi story, you could be forgiven for thinking that is not entirely the case from the reactions on the post. From top to bottom, all of the fan attention is clearly directed at Hayden Christensen’s return to the franchise. With many simply posting the actor’s name and heart emoji’s, it is certainly not hard to see that this series will become a mega-hit based on both of its returning stars and not just the one playing the title role. It was a similar story on Twitter following a video of the press tour arrival of the three stars and director.

In response to that post, many fans were once again quick to make comments about Christensen over McGregor, as can be seen in some of the posts below.

Even though everyone has a pretty good idea of how it will all pan out, at the heart of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is one moment that will define the entire series. Most likely kept for the finale, the rematch between Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in Darth Vader form is the one thing that many fans will be tuning in for and, according to the likes of Kathleen Kennedy, it is not going to disappoint.

While there has been no word on whether McGregor’s Jedi Master will be returning for more outings as Kenobi, Hayden Christensen has teased that he could be back again in one of the other series heading to Disney+ in the near future. He told Total Film last month:

“When George [Lucas] had brought me onto the prequels, it was to play Anakin… He gets knighted as Darth Vader towards the end, and for a couple of scenes I get to put the suit on. But my journey with the character was with Anakin Skywalker. But the character? He’s such a complex character. And now, getting to explore the mindset and emotional state of Darth Vader, has been a lot of fun… The extent of the journey, I think, remains to be seen, but what a privilege to get to come back and do this, and to be a part of this project.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres two episodes on May 27, and releases new content every Wednesday on Disney+.
