Following in the footsteps of Obi-Wan Kenobi co-star Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen has added his sadness at the treatment of the show’s new star Moses Ingram from online trolls. When Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ it didn’t take long for a small group of supposed fans of the Star Wars franchise making racist comments aimed at Ingram, who plays Inquisitor Reva in the new show. While the actress was warned in advance that this could happen by Lucasfilm bosses, and unfortunately everything she was told turned out to be true.
Speaking to ET, Hayden Christensen explained how he really hopes that by the end of the series those attacking the actress will have moved on, and she will be seen for the talented star that she is. He said:
"I've heard a little bit about that and, obviously, it really saddens me. I think the world of Moses. She's not only a lovely person and human being but an incredibly talented actress. The first time I saw the first couple of episodes, I was blown away by her performance and just thought that the subtleties and nuances that she brought to this character were there and really impressive. So, I mean, I hope by the end of the series, people are coming around. I think she's done a great job and I think [Reva] is an important character and people will come to realize that."
Moses Ingram Was Prepared To Face Hate Comments Online
Moses Ingram came into the Star Wars franchise with her eyes wide open as to the type of abuse she could find being aimed at her from toxic fans of the series. Having been warned in advance of what would likely happen, the actress may have been ready to bat away the hate, but it is still something that no-one should have to endure. Ingram posted her own thoughts on the hate in a video message she posted on her Instagram account. She told her fans:
“There’s nothing anybody can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. I question my purposes in even being here in front of you saying that this is happening. I don’t really know. The thing that bothers me is this feeling inside of myself, that no one has told me, but this feeling that I have to shut up and take it, that I have to grin and bear it. And I’m not built like that. So, I wanted to come on and say thank you to the people who show up for me in the comments and the places that I’m not going to put myself. And to the rest of y’all, y’all weird.”
Ingram has clearly had a lot of support and backing from the Obi-Wan Kenobi team, both from her fellow actors and crew, as well as the higher up execs of Lucasfilm. Whatever these fans say, Ingram is now a part of the Star Wars world, and there is nothing at all they can do to change that no matter how much they try.
