Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the 2011 blockbuster Captain America: The First Avenger, will not reprise her role in the upcoming sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Here's an excerpt from a feature story on the actress.

"She won't, she confirms, be back for the latter's sequel, which moves the action into the present day."

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers/Captain America, with Marvel's The Avengers stars Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Cobie Smulders returning as Nick Fury, The Black Widow, and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill. Sebastian Stan stars as the Winter Soldier, with Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo playing Falcon and Crossbones.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It isn't known when production may begin.
