According to Variety, HBO Films has optioned "The Dew Breaker," Haitian writer Edwige Danticat's bestselling collection of interwoven stories, to be developed as a feature-length film.

Published in March by Knopf, the book is a both a personal and political work uncovering the brutal history of the author's native country through a fictional tale of horror and imperfect redemption.

Set between Haiti in the 1960s and present-day New York, the stories piece together the past of a former torturer whose crimes in the country of his birth are masked by his new reality in America as a husband, father and hardworking Brooklyn barber.
