HBO Films is turning the Pulitzer Prize-winning book trilogy "The Sportswriter" into a six-hour miniseries to be directed by James Mangold.

The original book was written by Richard Ford. It covered over thirty years in the life of Frank Bascombe, a New Jersey sportswriter who is overcome with grief when his oldest son dies.

According to Variety, Mark Bomback will write all six hour-long episodes and use all three titles in the trilogy: "The Sportswriter," the Pulitzer-winning Independence Day and "The Lay of the Land."

No word on when production will start.
