HD DVD and Blu-Ray are neck and neck, as far as their DVD players go.
According to Home Media Magazine, the latest Consumer Reports rates both the Toshiba HD-AX2 HD DVD player and Pioneer DBP-94HD Blu-Ray player the same. Both players received a 91% rating for picture quality, which was the highest among the six Blu-Ray and three HD DVD players tested. They both garnered "excellent" marks for both picture quality and upconverting DVD.
Of all the players tested, the average for Blu-Ray players was an 87%, while the HD DVD players averaged an 81% score.
