If Heat ever ends up getting remade, Al Pacino knows exactly who he wants to play his character in the new version. In 1995, Pacino appeared in Heat as one of the lead characters, Lieutenant Vincent Hanna, co-starring with Robert De Niro, Tom Sizemore, Val Kilmer, and Ashley Judd. Written and directed by Michael Mann, the film is highly acclaimed and one of the most popular and influential movies of its era.

There has been chatter of a Heat remake happening, though nothing is set in stone. Should a new movie come to fruition, Pacino is hoping a certain Dune star gets the part he played in the original film. Per Liz Arcury on Twitter, Pacino participated in an audience Q&A after a recent screening of Heat and was asked who he'd cast in his role if it was his decision. Pacino quickly offered this response:

"Timothee Chalamet. Great actor, good looks."

Chalamet is someone who has proven his worth on the screen, earning an oscar nomination for the film Call Me by Your Name and starring in movies like Lady Bird, Little Women, Beautiful Boy, and Dune. He will be back in the upcoming sequel Dune: Part Two and is playing a young Willy Wonka in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel movie Wonka. It would not be a stretch to see the actor genuinely up for the role if a theoretical Heat reboot ever gets developed.

Remember Heat? It's Back, in Novel Form

Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino sit down to talk in Heat

Heat did not get a theatrical sequel, but a follow-up to the movie is happening on the printed page. Director Michael Mann has teamed up with Edgar winner Meg Gardiner to write a Heat novel that serves as both a prequel and a sequel to the feature film. Mann has also shared a few details about what fans can expect. This includes exploring the back stories of the lead characters played in the film by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

"It’s been my intention for a long time to do the further stories of Heat," he said, per Deadline. "There was always a rich history or back-story about the events in these people’s lives before 1995 in Heat and projection of where their lives would take them after.”

“When I was writing the film, it was imperative for me to create complete life stories about all the characters and to know everything about them, including Neil McCauley’s early institutionalized years when he lost track of his brother, before he parachuted into the streets, young, angry and dangerous," Mann added. "And, the novel shows a McCauley very much attached and the dramatic events that resulted in his dictum that 'if you’re making moves on the street, have no attachments, allow nothing to be in your life that you cannot walk out on in thirty seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner.'”

The Heat novel has been scheduled to release on Aug. 9, 2022.
