Netflix has picked up the rights to distribute Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between, an upcoming young adult romantic comedy. The film is based on the book of the same name, which follows Clare and Aidan, two high school graduates, the night before they leave for college. Over the span of twelve hours, they relive their romantic relationship to try and answer the age-old question: should they break up before going to college? As they go through every event in their relationship, from the first hello to making this decision, the audience will be taken on a journey of young love and difficult choices.

The film was produced by ACE Entertainment, known for producing the To All The Boys trilogy that had wide success on Netflix. The film marks the directorial debut of Michael Lewen, known for producing Trainwreck and The King of Staten Island. The screenplay was written by Amy Reed and Ben York Jones, creator of Everything Sucks!. With the success of their other work and how well previous partnerships between ACE Entertainment and Netflix went, the film should be well received.

While you prepare your tissues and reminisce about your high school romances in anticipation, here is everything you need to know about Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between before it hits Netflix.

The story follows two high school graduates, Clare (Talia Ryder) and Aidan (Jordan Fisher), as they "retrace the steps of their relationship on one last epic date." This retracing is to help them determine if they should break up at the end of the night as they both go off to college or if they should continue their relationship and work through long-distance together. This is a decision that many can relate to, even just in the sense of deciding if a long-distance relationship is a good idea when one person moves away for college, work, or family.

In the book, the events happen over the course of twelve hours, really making it an epic final date. The book says that Clare and Aidan are led "to family and friends, familiar landmarks and unexpected places, hard truths and surprising revelations," all of which help them make their decision at the end of the night. Audiences should expect to see this in the film, along with a final decision from the two as the sun rises. The synopsis does not give away this decision, but viewers can hope that as we go on the journey with them, we agree with what they decide in the end.

It was filmed in the fall of 2020, with principal photography starting in October. This means that there were still different COVID-19 precautions in place, which may impact the number of people we see in the film. If they relive common high school events like prom or graduation, they may seem under-populated. This may work in the film's favor, keeping the focus on Clare and Aidan as they navigate this important decision while on the cusp of starting the next chapter of their lives.

You still have time to read the book before Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between comes out this summer and takes us all on a trip down memory lane of first love and new beginnings.
