Filming has now wrapped on the latest reboot of Hellboy, with creator Mike Mignola taking to Instagram to heap praise on what he has seen of the latest big screen iteration of the beloved comic book character. Titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man, the reboot finds Mom and Dad and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance director Brian Taylor at the helm, with Deadpool 2 star Jack Kesy set to lead the project as the titular hero. Check out what Mike Mignola had to say about Hellboy: The Crooked Man below...

Revealing that the Hellboy reboot has “wrapped principal photography,” Mignola states that, while he was not on set for the latest take on his comic book creation, “they have been nice enough to send me dailies.” The writer and artist declared that he has “loved what I've been seeing” and that “If fans have been waiting for a Hellboy film that is actually an adaptation of one of my stories I think they are finally going to get one.”

Congratulating director Brian Taylor, the cast, and co-writer Chris Golden, Mignola states that the project has done “so much to figure out how to give the studio what they wanted and still keep true to the heart and soul of THE CROOKED MAN, my favorite of the Hellboy stories.”

Finally, Mignola pays tribute to Hellboy: The Crooked Man artist Richard Corben, who sadly passed away back in 2020. “I wish Richard Corben was still around to see this--They did a wonderful job bringing his really horrific character to life,” Mignola teased.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man Will Reboot the Franchise... Again

Hellboy was first brought to the big screen thanks to the critically acclaimed efforts from director Guillermo del Toro and star Ron Perlman. The franchise has since been rebooted once, with the David Harbor-led movie sadly finding itself on the opposite end of the critical spectrum from its predecessors. Thus, Hellboy: The Crooked Man will reboot the franchise again, adapting the 2008 story of the same name.

Written by Mignola with art by Richard Corben, the tale of The Crooked Man is a smaller, more intimate, lower stakes story than audiences are perhaps used to, and finds the well-meaning half-Demon assist a man who wishes to save his soul.

This recent post is far from the first time that Mignola has heaped praise on the reboot and director Brian Taylor, commending the filmmaker for wanting to make a Hellboy horror movie. "His intention is to make a horror movie, so that'll be nice. That'll be interesting,” he said earlier this year. “I read the new draft of the screenplay yesterday, and yes, it is definitely R. It's the first Hellboy script that I read and I went, 'Oh, it's a horror movie,' which is what I wanted. Taylor does not have a reputation as a horror movie director. But, so far, we've had two horror movie directors make Hellboy movies and we've never gotten a horror movie."

Starring 12 Strong star Jack Kesy as Hellboy alongside Jefferson White and Adeline Rudolph, Hellboy: The Crooked Man does not yet have a release date.
