Hulu has released the official trailer for Hellraiser, the new installment of the long-running horror movie series. In this latest chapter, Jamie Clayton takes over the role of Pinhead, aka Hell Priest, the role played by Doug Bradley in the original film and most of its sequels. The movie starts streaming on Oct. 7, 2022, and you can get a sneak peek at what it's like by watching the trailer below.

Hellraiser is a Hulu Original in association with Spyglass Media Group. The official synopsis for the new Hellraiser is as follows:

In Hellraiser, a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.

The film reunites director David Bruckner, screenwriters Ben Collins & Luke Piotrowski, writer/producer, David S. Goyer, and producer Keith Levine following their work on the 2020 film The Night House. Clive Barker also returns to the franchise as a producer alongside Marc Roberoff, while executive producers include Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, and Todd Williams. Chris Stone is co-producing.

The New Movie Is Not a Remake

Hellraiser Reboot

While there's a new performer in the role of Pinhead, director David Bruckner does not see this movie as a remake of the original film. He previously spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the new movie's plot and how he wanted it to stand on its own, knowing from the start it'd be foolish to try and recreate the magic of the first Hellraiser. Bruckner instead sees this as as continuation of the story.

"This is not a remake," he said. "I just didn't think you could ever remake the original Hellraiser. It's too much its own thing and it would be, I think, perilous territory for filmmakers, because how do you top that? This is a new story in the Hellraiser universe."

He added, "It's the tale of a young woman, who's struggling with addiction and compulsive behavior, that comes in contact accidentally with the box and unfortunately begins to dabble with it. And chaos ensues."

Hulu's Hellraiser starts streaming on Oct. 7, 2022.
