Don't go into the new Hellraiser movie expecting a reimagining of the original story. Set to debut on Hulu in October, the next Hellraiser film brings in a new Pinhead with Jamie Clayton making her debut as the iconic horror villain. Some fan might presume that this means the new film will be a remake of the original movie, but that is not going to be the case.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, director David Bruckner touched on the movie's plot. Bruckner said that the original Hellraiser is such an excellent film that it would be pointless to try and replicate it. He makes it clear that he doesn't see this film as a remake, but rather as a new story in the Hellraiser universe that follows all-new characters that are terrorized by a new incarnation of Pinhead.

"This is not a remake. I just didn't think you could ever remake the original Hellraiser. It's too much its own thing and it would be, I think, perilous territory for filmmakers, because how do you top that? This is a new story in the Hellraiser universe."

With that said, don't expect to see characters like Frank (Sean Chapman) or Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) with new actors in the roles. The new film will follow Odessa A'zion as Riley, and Bruckner provided a tease at some of the mayhem that will await her once a certain puzzle box gets opened.

"It's the tale of a young woman, who's struggling with addiction and compulsive behavior, that comes in contact accidentally with the box and unfortunately begins to dabble with it. And chaos ensues."

While we will see the return of Pinhead, albeit with a new actor in the role, the film will also be introducing at least one new Cenobite. The Cenobite, seen above, has been named "The Masque," according to Bruckner. The director also declared this new Cenobite to be his personal favorite and "just a tease" of what all fans will see when the movie arrives on Hulu.

"We call him The Masque. The Masque is one of my favorite Cenobites and it's just a tease of really what's to come as far as the Cenobites are concerned."

The new Hellraiser is produced by Clive Barker, the author of the original novella and director of the first movie, alongside Keith Levine, David Goyer, and Marc Toberoff. The film is written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. Along with Jamie Clayton as Pinhead, the film also stars Odessa A'zion, Brandon Flynn, Drew Starkey, and Adam Faison.

The new Hellraiser will start streaming on Hulu on Oct. 7, 2022.
