Ed Douglas is a fighter. We should know, we've gone toe-to-toe with the man quite a few times, and we're pretty sure he'll give cancer a run for its money. We haven't always seen eye-to-eye with the esteemed film critic and journalist, but the world just wouldn't be the same without him covering entertainment news and the weekend box office. We were saddened to hear that Ed has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. A fundraising drive has been started to help Ed cover his mounting medical costs, since he is currently without health insurance. We want to wish Ed a speedy recovery, and encourage our readers and colleagues to donate to this worthy cause, set up by Mike Sampson through Give Forward, especially if you've ever been a fan of Ed's or enjoying reading his work in the past.

Here's the introductory message from the site, with more details on the fundraising campaign.

"Ed Douglas is one of the sweetest human beings that I have ever met. There are not many people who would drop what he is doing at the last minute, on a Saturday afternoon, while he is feeling sick, to help a friend move as Ed did just two weeks ago -- sadly, no one realized just how sick Ed was. Ed has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. A diagnosis that was made while Ed was in Las Vegas, working at light speed, like he always is, while covering CinemaCon for Coming Soon. Ed has no idea that his friends are putting this together. Honestly, I don't know if he'd approve of this fund being set up because Ed's always been a proud man. But, unfortunately, Ed doesn't have health insurance and has already spent a considerable amount of time in a Las Vegas hospital and will be spending even more time in a Columbus, Ohio hospital (near his family) as he undergoes chemotherapy. Ed has always been there for us and we need to be there for him as he confronts what is most likely going to be the most difficult time of his life."

After not just one day, over $28,000 has been donated to this worthy cause, more than half of the $50,000 goal. CLICK HERE to show your support for Ed Douglas. There are still 71 days to donate and help out a friend and colleague in need.
