Spoiler Alert: Spoilers for Black Adam Ahead

Fans have eagerly anticipated the return of Henry Cavill to the DCEU, as his character has been severely underutilized over the past few years. Cavill made his first appearance as Superman in 2013's Man of Steel before reprising his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

After a five-year absence (not counting his appearance in Zack Snyder's Justice League), Cavill returned to his beloved role in a post-credit scene in Black Adam. Following the significant cameo, the actor will return to the role for the long haul as DC's extended universe attempts to revive itself after a few lackluster years. In addition, a Man of Steel sequel is reportedly in the works, which would provide a much-needed solo film for the character. Cavill officially announced his return on Monday, following a $67 million domestic debut of Black Adam over the weekend. His Instagram post is everything fans want to hear, as the actor seems excited to fly back into the superhero genre.

"Hey everyone, I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam," Cavill explains to his fans. " But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman. And the image you see on this post and what you saw in Black Adam are just a very small taste of things to come. So there's a lot to be thankful for, and I'll get to that in time." He continues, "But I wanted to thank you guys most of all for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded." Cavill's video can be seen in its entirety below.

Black Adam's Post Credit-Scene Was Far From a Secret

The Rock Has Always Envisioned a Showdown Between Black Adam and Superman

Unfortunately, many fans learned about the Man of Steel's appearance in Black Adam before seeing the film. Dwayne Johnson, who stars as the titular character in the movie, teased Cavill's appearance for weeks leading up to the film's release. Then, the post-credit scene details were leaked in early October, which all but solidified Cavill's long-awaited return.

Of course, all this should lead to Black Adam's and Superman's inevitable showdown. The fight would be a massive box office draw, as audiences can't wait for the return of the Man of Steel, especially when he would be alongside Johnson's anti-hero for an entire feature film. But, for now, audiences can see their brief appearance in Black Adam as the actors and the Warner Bros. regime decide how they want to move forward with the DCEU. The next movie in the shared universe is Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set for release on March 17, 2023.
