The world of the DC Cinematic Universe has been thrown into chaos recently, with Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav canceling and delaying projects every which way that he can. One DC element that fans are hoping to see amid the mayhem however is the return of Henry Cavill as Superman – and those hopes may have just been fulfilled by an industry insider.

According to insider @AjepArts, "Multiple scoopers 100% believe Henry is back, the dm I received said '[Cavill's] back[.]' This friend who told me this I trust very well, and has ALWAYS been skeptical over Cavill and Affleck returning. They are now believing into the idea of [Cavill's] return."

They continued saying, “Before this, it was seen as impossible. But the tides are changing. Something has to be going on.” No doubt referring the changing tides that have occurred since the studios’ merging with Warner Bros. Discovery.

While unconfirmed, this is just one of several promising insights from notable insiders. The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez recently claimed that those at Warner Bros. Discovery "like [Cavill] as Superman," though Fandango’s Erik Davis has also claimed that Cavill “doesn't want to do it.”

"The Multiverse has to stay, if they want to keep [Supergirl actress] Sasha Calle and bring back a new Superman or bring back Cavill or something, that's going to have to be the reality of it," Gonzalez added. "This is probably going to turn into a story, I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure they'll maybe try to [get him back].” After adding that he “could be wrong” he concluded that “I don't think it's over just yet."

Henry Cavill Has Stated That There is More Story for His Superman to Tell

Henry Cavill first appeared as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the current slate of the DC cinematic universe. The actor has since played the character throughout director Zack Snyder’s hugely divisive Snyder-Verse, reprising the role in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice before uniting with the likes of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash in both Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder’s respective versions of Justice League.

Cavill has stated that there is still a lot more story for his iteration of Superman to tell. "There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity,” the actor said. “The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again. Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward - I don't think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had...There's an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, 'The cape is still in the closet.'"

Warner Bros. will no doubt be fully aware of how much so many DC fans want Henry Cavill to return as the Man of Steel. But with the actor busy filming The Witcher, among other prospective projects, will Cavill be ready, willing, and able to once again fight for truth and justice on the big screen?
