According to The Hollywood Reporter, Toshiba's HD-DVD format has won a badly needed victory with the support of computer giant Hewlett Packard. Previously HP had said it would only back rival next-generation optical disc format Blu-ray Disc, from Sony. But after the Blu-ray Disc Assn. refused certain concessions HP had sought in October, HP rethought its exclusive vow of support. HP had wanted the BDA to incorporate into Blu-ray specifications both iHD, which allows greater interactivity, and Mandatory Managed Copy, which allows the legal duplication of video content. The BDA only approved Managed Copy; HD-DVD specs already include both.
