Just one day after reporting that Bruce Campbell is returning as his beloved character Ash in Starz's Evil Dead TV series, the actor has joined the indie comedy Highly Functional alongside James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom).

The story centers on a washed up country music star (Bruce Campbell) who is kidnapped by a young autistic man (James Frecheville). The abduction occurs because the autistic man believes that his dying caregiver can only be cured by the musician's performance.

The cast also includes Annabeth Gish, Missi Pyle, G.W. Bailey and Judge Reinhold, with Christopher Nicholas Bangs providing original music.

Marc Forby is directing from a script by Tom Dibble, with Nigel Thomas, Kaila York and Robert Menzies producing. Shooting is already under way in New Mexico for a three-week shoot, with the production wrapping up in Canada next month.
