Fox has won the bidding war for the rights to Will Smith's 2005 theatrical comedy Hitch, which is now being turned into a television series, according to Deadline TV.

The Proposal screenwriter Pete Chiarelli will pen the pilot episode, with Will Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment producing. Overbrook previously tried to turn the movie into a TV series three years ago at CBS with writer Ben Wexler.

This new version is described as an, "action-packed one-hour" series, although it isn't clear how the action elements will be introduced into the series. The original movie featured Will Smith as a date doctor who specialized in helping others find love.

The project has received a script commitment from the network. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on this new Hitch TV series as soon as it becomes available.
