Hobbs and Shaw has officially introduced super powers to the Fast and Furious franchise and fans are divided on what to think. Dwayne Johnson has been preparing us all for the spin-off over the last several months and he has, more than once, told us that Idris Elba's Brixton villain is "superhuman" and "bulletproof." However, we didn't take him literally when he said those words. Most fans just figured that Brixton was going to be a really tough villain.
That all changed when the Hobbs & Shaw trailer dropped earlier this morning. Idris Elba's Brixton character is really superhuman and bulletproof. Details are a bit sketchy at the moment, but the villain really has super powers and it brings a bit of a comic book twist to the Fast and Furious franchise that has never been seen before in a Furious project and some fans aren't sure what to think about the new addition. Some are entirely supportive of the decision, while others are completely turned off by the addition of super powers in Hobbs & Shaw.
The Fast and Furious franchise fans were already divided before the Hobbs & Shaw trailer was released. Many look at it as Dwayne Johnson taking away from the franchise, which was magnified when Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson expressed their frustration with the spin-off. So naturally, those fans are really not into what the Rock is cooking this time around. One fan had this to say.
"Vin Diesel must be really pissed off that the one Fast & Furious movie he's not in actually has superpowers... this looks so ridiculous..."
Now, the Fast and Furious franchise has been ridiculous since its inception. That's part of the appeal. That being said, there are a lot of fans who are shocked it took them this long to include super powers. Hobbs & Shaw trailer proves the franchise is taking on the tradition of the franchise and amplifying it, which could either be a good thing or a bad thing. For a late summer popcorn movie, it sounds perfect, but we'll have to wait to see the full reactions when the movie hits theaters. For some, Idris Elba rocking super powers in a Fast and Furious movie is the winning combination. One fan explains.
"Idris straight up just having super powers in Hobbs & Shaw is everything I've wanted in the franchise since everyone started flying in movie 6."
Obviously, this debate over super powers isn't going to go away anytime soon as some people are embracing it and others... not so much. Whatever the case may be, the Hobbs & Shaw trailer is shocking even the most hardcore Fast and Furious fans, which could be a good thing. While we wait to see if the Super Bowl offers up any more additional footage Universal Pictures'Hobbs & Shaw, you can check out some of the reactions to the trailer below.
