Ever since Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham teamed up for their Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, many fans hoped that there would be another outing for the dynamic duo. However, it looks like that may be something that fans will have to continue to wish for, as an update by producer Kelly McCormick has suggested that there have been no discussions about more Hobbs & Shaw being on the cards in the near future. McCormick told ComicBook.com:

“We would love to, there's no conversations at this time. I do feel like there were a lot of seeds planted to try to create a spinoff in a way that included a Kevin Hart and a Ryan Reynolds and sort of all that kind of stuff. And that was intentional, but not necessarily because we had plans in mind, just because it would be fun to have different players for them to play with, if anybody, or we wanted to go for it in a different way. So, you know, I don't know, I mean Dwayne's a really busy guy and you know, he would be the one to motivate all of that. So, you know, we're ready if he wants to and until then he's just dominating so all power to him.”

Dwayne Johnson’s recent move into the DCU as Black Adam could have a significant impact on movies like Hobbs & Shaw 2 ever being made. While Jason Statham has been busy recently on the latest Expendables movie and could have more of those in the pipeline, Johnson’s lengthy list of commitments would likely be a stumbling block every time.

Dwayne Johnson seemed to fit right into the set-up of the Fast & Furious franchise, but his very public spat with franchise lead Vin Diesel pretty much ruled him out of wanting to return to main Fast movies. Whether that would stop Johnson also wanting to be part of another franchise spin-off is not clear, as he did previously tease a potential sequel pitch. However, it seems that then, as now, it was all down to having the time to do it.

At the end of Hobbs & Shaw, Ryan Reynolds’ CIA Agent Locke was certainly set up to be part of a future movie in the franchise. Still, it could be possible that Johnson and Reynolds’ pairing up again on the Netflix movie Red Notice could have been his way of working with Reynolds without having to jump back into the Fast franchise.

One thing that is certain is that Dwayne Johnson doesn’t have much spare time on his hands. With Black Adam now set to be a big part of the DCU, movies like Red One coming next year, and possible sequels to Jumanji and Red Notice very much on his horizon, Johnson is possibly too busy looking to the future to worry too much about capitalizing on his Hobbs & Shaw past.
