The return of the Sanderson sisters is probably one of the most anticipated Disney+ events planned for Halloween 2022, with Hocus Pocus 2 bringing the witches in search of eternal youth back for more spooky shenanigans in the sequel to the original 1993 movie. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy have all returned to reprise their roles in the belated sequel, and a new set video has revealed Parker’s Sarah Sanderson flying on a Swiffer instead of a broomstick. This is not the first set leak from Hocus Pocus 2, with video footage last month being shared on social media showing all three of the main cast back in costume on the custom-built set in Rhode Island.

From details released so far, the plot of Hocus Pocus 2 sticks very close to that of the first movie with the Sandersons being resurrected again 29 years after the story in the original, with three high school students attempting to stop the witches bringing their dark magic to the world. We well as the returning Sandersons, the film also sees fan-favorite Doug Jones back as Billy Butcherson, the ex-boyfriend of Winifred Sanderson who returned in the first movie as a zombie and will be doing the same this time around.

The newest clip from the set was shared on the Instagram account Hocus Pocus Guide, which contains a number of other images and videos that have been collected during the recent filming, and shows Midler and Parker taking flight, with the former using Winfred’s classic broomstick while Parker is left using a more modern form of transport in what is likely a callback to the first movie when Kathy Najimy’s Mary had to use a vacuum cleaner instead of her own broom. While Mary is not apparent in this particular clip, there is no doubt that she will be around somewhere.

Hocus Pocus 2 is one of the many legacy sequels being created by Disney at the moment as part of their push for new content for Disney+, and with that in mind the film possibly could have some constraints on budget, but whether that is the case or not the film is clearly embracing the use of practical effects over excessive CGI. While there has been a huge shift in technology since the Sandersons last took flight, it is good to know that a big part of the sequel will be using the same kind of “real” effects that were seen in the original movie and make it still loved today.

The sequel has been filming for a couple of months now, and thanks to the eagle-eyed residents of Rhode Island we have been given a huge amount of behind the scenes videos and photographs, from cast and crew to sets and more. While we are still months away from seeing the final film on screen in the fall of 2022, it is fair to say that fans are already hyped for the movie which will surely become just as loved as the original.
