Entrepreneur Norby Walters knows how to throw a great soiree - so it was a given that we would attend a special reception and screening of Bobby in Beverly Hills. Norby is the proud father of Gary Michael Walters, Executive Producer of the flick, and among the celebrity guests was gorgeous Christian Slater. Some of the other show biz biggies toasting Walters, included Hercules himself (Kevin Sorbo)who is now starring in the O.C., PR wiz, Edward Lozzi, Gary Busey, who was accompanied by his attorney, Vicki Roberts, and that Jersey Boy himself, Frankie Valli (Four Seasons) who was a client of Noby's back East.

|Former V.P. Al Gore with his wife Tipper, Jaime & Frank McCourt & Tommy Lasorda|
Hopefully Bobby will receive an Oscar nomination, and another Oscar hopeful is none other than Al Gore, for his global warning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. The busy Ex Vice President was special guest at the American Friends of Hebrew university fundraiser at the Beverly Hilton.. Jaime and Frank McCourt, owners of the L.A. Dodgers, joined a prestigious group of honorees, including Steven Spielberg, Ted Turner, and Frank Sinatra in receiving the Scopus Award for their generous support of the Hebrew University. Vin Scully, Hall of Fame Broadcaster, served as Master Ceremonies, and Sandy Koufax, presented them with their award.

Warner Bros. recording artist William Joseph, entertained the black tie crowd with his brilliant music, and Gore (who had just won the LA Film Critics Award for his documentary) praised the contributions of Jewish culture and stated that the University "Can make a difference in the world in which we live."

Others who lauded the McCourt's for their support included Mayor Antonio Villaigrosa, Don Rickles and Jason Alexander. The best news was that over $3 million dollars was raised that evening. Go Dodgers Blue!
|Author Samuel Bernstein ("Mr. Confidential") with Barbara & Michael Tobias|
And last, but not least, attended a pre-release book signing soiree for Mr. Confidential by author and screenwriter, Samuel Bernstein. This tome details the rise and fall of publisher Robert Harrison, who created the infamous Confidential Magazine in the 50's. After reading same, I promise a review. We were there with our pals, Barbara and Michael Tobias, who is a nephew of the late Mr. Harrison, who filled us in on many of the details. Michael is a well respected tennis coach in West Hollywood, and he even coaches Star Jones, who knows how to handle a racket. He is pictured here with his wife, Barbara, wearing one of her fabulous hand-knit ponchos. If you want to learn how to swing with the stars, you can contact him at 310-652-2008.
