The invitation to the premiere of Funny Money, arrived on a bogus million dollar bill, but there was nothing bogus about the hilarious film starring Chevy Chase and Penelope Ann Miller. It is pure slapstick all the way, and one of the few "feel good" movies around. Based on a London stage play by Ray Cooney, the flick has been a hit at film festivals and has been receiving excellent reviews here in Tinsletown.

The star-studded premiere was co-hosted by Consolidated Resorts, the largest time- share operation in Hawaii, who is sponsoring an unprecedented multi-million dollar indie film promotional campaign. Some of the celebs sipping Mai Tai's and dining on decadent desserts included handsome co-star Armand Assante (Mambo Kings, Odyssey) and Albert Brooks (Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World), who agrees that Chevy is at the top of his game. "It's money in the bank".

A few days later we were invited by Placido Domingo to lunch at the Music Center, and to hear the announcement of the Los Angeles Opera's 2007/08 Season. As the Maestro stated, "It might well be Los Angeles and the Giants". Their coming Season boasts the giants of composing, with their giant compositions. Included are Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Beethoven's Fidelio (the only opera he ever wrote). Wagner will be represented with Tristan and Isolde, and Verdi's Othello will also be presented. Everyone's favorite, Puccini, will be represented by La Boheme, Tosca, and La Rondine. After all, it is the 250th Anniversary of his birth, and he deserves special mention.

We were seated with our friends, Dolores Elena Richardson and Orlando Ortega, Board Members of the Hispanics for the L.A. Opera. They are excited about the Friends of Zarzuela Placido Domingo Awards Dinner, which will take place on Sunday, June 10, immediately following the matinee of the Zarzuela Luisa Fernando, starring Placido Domingo. We must recommend one of the most delightful dining experiences, Sur Restaurant in West Hollywood. We dined there with Soap Opera favorite (The Young & the Restless) Brenda Dixon, and Manager, Ron Scott, and were impressed by their elegant décor and outstanding menu. We met the new partners, Ken Todd and his actress wife, Lisa Vanderpump who moved here from London, and young actor Frank Mentier, who just received a contract role on the NBC daytime drama Days Of Our Lives. Other young Hollywood fans of Sur include Mini Driver, Joaquin Phoenix, Penelope Cruz and the Olson Twins.

And speaking of young Hollywood, Norby Walter's Night of the 100 Stars Oscar Viewing party (which we always attend) is turning out to be the hippest happening on the party circuit. Some of the confirmed attendees include Jason Ritter, Thora Birch, Sean Astin, Ludacris and Bryce Dallas Howard. These under 30 Hollywood hotties will join such legends as James Woods, Keith Carradine, Lou Diamond Phillips and Bo Derek in making the Night of the 100 Stars the place to be on Oscar Night on the Hollywood Beat.
