at "A Place Called Home"Girl Power ruled at "A Place Called Home" awards luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event celebrated "Girlz in the Hood" a program where inner city girls participate in an eight week program inspiring them to break the vicious cycle of gang activity, and empower them to lead more productive lives.

Among the honorees was Nicole Richie, looking slim and svelte in a silk sheath, who received her award from her Superstar Dad, Lionel. She admitted to a period of self destructive behavior during her teen years, and is trying to send the message to young people that one can be cool and still be a "stand up person".

Gloria Gebbia, Diane Davidow & Nicole RichieAlso lauded was Ann Lopez, who recently donated her kidney to husband, comedian George Lopez. This dynamic couple contributed over a half million dollars to provide community services for inner city students in the San Fernando Valley.

Others honored were philanthropist Gloria Gebbia and psychologist Diane Davidow. And, to top it all off, we all received a silver bracelet inscribed "Girlz In the Hood" – which I am proud to wear to show my support for "A Place Called Home".

Cheryl Post, Carol Connors, Barbi Benton and Mara NewThe newly renovated Orlando Hotel in West Hollywood threw a Seaside Soiree to honor three merry mermaids – songwriter Carol Connors, Barbie Benton (Hugh Hefner's main squeeze for many years) and former Mousketeer, Cheryl Post. The event was a Bon Voyage for the waterbabes, who were off to Hawaii for a fundraiser for Reef check. This organization monitors the conditions of the reefs, oceans and all the sea creatures that swim in it – big and small. They are dedicated to saving the reefs and bringing awareness to what is considered the rainforest of the oceans.

Barbi Benton & Carol ConnorsSome of the notables at the luncheon included Kate Linder (Young & The Restless), Marilyn McCoo (Fifth Dimension) and Joanne Worley (Laugh In) who performed a hilarious routine with her pet shark, Sammy.

Another beauty, Cameron Diaz recently became involved in saving coral reefs. She and her pals, Jessica Alba and Kid Rock returned from filming an episode of MTV's Trippin, and were blown away by the coral reefs, which are facing some major challenges. Cameron even taped a VHI Special on their behalf.

With supporters like Nick Lachey and his better half, Jessica Simpson, Kelly Hu (Scorpion King) and philanthropist Mara New (Golden Needle Awards) the oceans our world are sure to be saved on the Hollywood Beat.
