My connection to Merv Griffin was through Susan Stafford, the original hostess of Wheel of Fortune. I met the gorgeous letter turner when I first moved to L.A., and she has come a long way since then. She is just competing her book, "Stop The Wheel, I Want to Get off," which details her eclectic life of service to patients with leprosy, cancer and Aids. She as also been chosen as Ambassador of Entertainment for STARFAIR, founded by Bob Alexander, which will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center Dec. 6-9, with countless stars like Stefanie Powers, Tab Hunter and Adam West to name a few. This is your opportunity to see great classic movies, and meet your favorite stars. For further info, please call 760-416-5811 or check out their website at www.palmspringswalkofstars.com.

Dr. Susan's escort at Merv's memorial was Dr. Mark Karalla, who delivered Merv's two grandchildren. She was happy to reunite with Fred Hayman (Giorgios), who is one of the nicest men in town. Everyone related how creative Merv was, and how he loved life. When asked what he wanted on his tombstone, he replied, "I won't be right back". What a pity for all of us, who knew and loved this extraordinary gentleman.

Another great beauty, who is also a personal friend of mine, Tina Louise (Gilligan's Island) was in town (from her pied-a-terre in Manhattan) to promote her new book, "When I Grow Up". This charming children's book, illustrated by Oliver Corwin, uses animals and insects to offer helpful and playful advise to children on the professions to which they may aspire.

PR wiz, Edward Lozzi, hosted a dinner party in her honor at Sur Restaurant in West Hollywood, and it was fun being with the glamorous Ginger - who still can stop traffic wherever she goes. And to prove that good genes run in families, Tina's daughter, Caprice Crane (her dad was the late radio and TV personality, Les Crane), is also an author. Her latest book," Forget About It", has just been released and we understand that it has already been optioned for a movie.

Ms .Berman, one of the experts interviewed in the flick, explained that the last of the world's forests are severely threatened, with logging in Canada alone, contributing as many greenhouse gas emissions as all of the cars on the roads in California!

After the screening, a panel of experts, including Nancy Sutley, LA Deputy Mayor of Energy and Environment, and actress Sharon Lawrence, spoke about the lack of protection for the world's last remaining intact forests, and how they play an essential role in the fight against global warming.
