Being a fan of fantasy and horror films, we never miss the Saturn Awards, which were founded by the late Dr. Donald A. Reed. My ex-brother-in-law, Jack Harris, who produced The Blob (Steve McQueen's first starring role), indoctrinated us into the genre, and I even had a small part in Jack's film, The Eyes of Laura Mars (starring Faye Dunaway).

We bid goodbye last week to a Westside Legend, Elaine Young, Realtor to the Stars. Elaine was one of the first "stars" we met when we got off the boat from Philadelphia, and she showed us around her turf. She even sold us our first property in Beverly Hills. Elaine, who was married to Academy Award winning actor Gig Young, represented our town with style and grace. She was never too busy to lend an ear to someone in need, and in spite of her luxury lifestyle and cadre of celebrities, always found time to be a true friend to everyone. A rare commodity in tinseltown indeed.

Café Roma was her favorite dining spot, and her round table (in the center of the courtyard, of course) was always stocked with beautiful people. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, another regular diner, said he was impressed by Elaine's courage and strength. Many of these were at her memorial, including James Darren, Renee Taylor and Joe Bologna, Sally Kirkland and eternally young Terry Moore. Elaine's daughter, Jennifer and her best friend, Marie Foti were gracious hosts to the more than 200 admirers who came to pay tribute to the Queen of the Hollywood Beat - Elaine Young.
