Gladys Knight joined the ranks of such luminaries as Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett and Barry Manilow, and received the 16th Ella Award at the Beverly Hilton. This honor was bestowed by the Society of Singers, who provide services to professional singers during difficult times, and offer scholarships to promising new musicians.

Some of her famous friends who entertained in her honor, included Smokey Robinson, Johnny Mathis (who still looks like a teenager), and Gladys' brother, Bubba Knight, who sang, "The Lady Is a Tramp". But the real standout of the evening was Melissa Etheridge, whose rendition of "Neither One of Us (Wants to be the First to Say Goodbye") had everyone mesmerized. Etheridge just released her new album,(her first since her bout with breast cancer) "The Awakening" She told Billboard that she won't go on tour to promote the album until next summer, because she has kids in school. But the buzz is that this esoteric, intensely personalized production will be a hit. Kudos to Jerry Sharell, President of the SOS and his hardworking committee for scoring another successful evening; or as Steve & Eydie stated, "Pip, Pip, Hooray!
Trendsetter and philantopist Elyse Walker, owner of the hottest boutique in L.A, and Jessica Biel, hosted a Pink Party benefiting Cedars-Sini women's Cancer Research Institute at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica. Since it was a Pink Party (which is the official color of those ribbons we all sport to support breast cancer research), one would have thought the celebs would have been decked out pretty in pink But this wasn't the case.

Dazzling in a coffee colored frock, Katherine McPhee proved she may not have won the competition on American Idol, but the charming chanteuse is making waves on the silver screen. With three films in production, and several successful music videos, Katherine is an International Idol, to be sure. We are a personal friend of Katherine's Mom, Peisha, who has entertained at many of our soirees Like mother - like daughter - they both are gorgeous and have a voice to match.
Speaking of preggies, expectant Mom, Courtney Thorne-Smith was enjoying the Kobe Beef sliders and Mac n cheese balls, as was the new Baby Mama Marcia Cross, (Desperate Housewives,) who donned a pink silk top for the occasion. .Others who joined Dr. Beth Karlan, and helped raise funds for research to end women's cancers, included Rebecca Romijn, Jerry O'Connell, Roseanne Barr and Giada de Laurentis - Pretty in Pink indeed.

And as a final tribute to Luciano Pavarotti, we would like to include this touching photo of our chum, Traude Winik, who founded the first Luciano Pavarotti Fan club in California, and who interviewed him for many publications. She was invited to the private screening of his movie, Yes Giorgio at MGM studios in 1982; and last saw him a few months ago at the Hollywood Bowl. This Sophia Loren look-a-like is one of our favorite celeb photographers on the Hollywood Beat.
