The Home Alone reboot just became very real as several key cast members have been added to the Disney+ feature. We learned not long ago that this was one of the Fox properties that Disney inherited in the $71.3 billion merger that went into effect earlier this year. They're not wasting much time, as we've learned that a trio of stars led by Jojo Rabbit breakout Archie Yates will lead the reboot.

According to a new report, Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper (The Office) and Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2 have all been cast in the new Home Alone movie. Yates will play the lead role, but he won't be playing Kevin McCallister, the role made famous by Macauley Culkin in the original holiday classic. There are no firm details on who Kemper or Delaney will be playing in the Disney+ Home Alone Remake at this time. It was initially suspected that they could be playing Yates' parents, but that appears to not be the case. It's noted in the report that they could be playing a couple not related at all to Yates.

Dan Mazer (Who is America?) is on board to direct, working from a screenplay by Saturday Night Live veterans Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. We had previously heard that the new protagonist will be named Max, a nine-year-old boy who is mischievous and wise beyond his years. There are no specific story details available at this time. So it's not clear if Disney will be going for a straight-ahead remake, or if they're going to change up the formula a bit. Since this won't center on Kevin McCallister, it could take place in the same universe, which might help certain lovers of the original movies get on board with the idea.

Archie Yates made a big impression this year in the critically-acclaimed Jojo Rabbit as the scene-stealing Yorki, which served as his movie debut. Ellie Kemper is known best as her role as Erin on The Office, as well as her Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Kemper has also starred in movies such as Bridesmaids and 21 Jump Street. Rob Delaney, meanwhile, is a comedian who has recently started appearing in high-profile projects, largely thanks to his very memorable turn as Peter in Deadpool 2. Delaney also appeared in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw earlier this year, as well as a role in the upcoming Bombshell, which is seen as a major Oscar contender.

Home Alone was originally released in 1990 and went on to become a massive success. The Chris Columbus-directed family-friendly movie grossed $476 million at the global box office and spawned two sequels. There is currently no word on how soon production is expected to begin. The project is being developed for Disney+, the company's recently launched streaming service. So it's possible, if everything comes together quickly enough, that this could be a 2020 holiday release. We'll be sure to keep you posted as further details on the project are made available.
