Earlier this year we found out that Adam Sandler and his production company (Happy Madison) were working on an upcoming film staring Kevin James as NFL coach Sean Payton. The film, titled Home Team, will be released on January 28, 2022 on Netflix.

Home Team follows the story of New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and his life away from the NFL during his yearlong suspension in 2012. The infamous "Bountygate" scandal saw the coach leave for the the NFL but not football. During that time he coached his son's sixth-grade football team. The film also stars Taylor Lautner (Twilight) also stars in the movie, as well as Rob Schneider.

Netflix dropped a brand new trailer for the film recently and you can watch it by clicking the link below.

Kevin James isn't a stranger to sports or sports films for that matter. He is a huge Mets, Jets and Knicks fan. He also starred in Here Comes the Boom, a movie about a teacher-turned-MMA fighter trying to save the job of a music teacher at the school. With James and Sandler being good friends off the screen as well as on, it makes sense that James would land this role. After all Adam Sandler and Kevin James have worked together on Grown Ups 1 & 2, Hotel Transylvania 1-4, 50 First Dates, Chuck and Larry and Hubie Halloween to name a few.

Not only do we have a new trailer for this film but we also have a brand new poster showing off Kevin James as Sean Payton standing with his sons football team the Peewee Warriors. Here is a look at the new poster.

For those that are not familiar with the scandal surrounding Sean Payton and the New Orleeans Saints, here is a little overview of what got the coach susppended. Bountygate was an incident in which members of the Saints were accused of paying out bonuses, or "bounties" for injuring opposing team players. The pool was alleged to have been in operation from 2009 (the year in which the Saints won the Super Bowl) to 2011. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended indefinitely, though this would be overturned the following year. Head coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 NFL season. General manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for the first eight games of the 2012 season. Assistant head coach Joe Vitt was suspended for the first six games of the 2012 season. The Saints organization was penalized with a $500,000 fine and forced to forfeit their second-round draft selections in 2012 and 2013.

Although this is a pretty serious incident, I imagine that the superstar team of Happy Madison and Kevin James will bring some lightheartedness to the story in some fashion. The movie will hit Neflix on January 28, so we will have to wait and see for ourselves. What do you think of the casting and the film? Is this going to be a Netflix hit you must watch?
