Walt Disney Pictures has brought on screenwriter Dan Harris (Superman Returns, X2: X-Men United) to rewrite the script for Hovercar, which has been stuck in development since 2004.

The project is based on Matthew Riley's young adult novel, which is set in a future where people travel via hovering cars, and hovercar racing is an elite sport. The story centers on a young man who enters an internationally-renowned racing school. Other writers have taken a crack at the script such as David DiGilio, John Sayles, and Blaise Hemingway.

Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are producing Hovercar for Disney. Dan Harris previously worked with writing partner Michael Dougherty on Superman Returns, X2: X-Men United, and Trick 'r Treat.

No production schedule was given for Hovercar.
