Hulu's How I Met Your Father is coming back for a second season, and better yet for fans, it will be twice as long. Per TVLine, the streamer has officially ordered season 2 of the How I Met Your Mother spinoff series after they were impressed by the viewership numbers and reviews for the freshman season. While the first season was capped at 10 episodes, season 2 will run twice as long with 20 total episodes, showing that Hulu has a lot of faith in the new show moving forward.

“[Series creators] Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger]’s inspired vision for How I Met Your Father has proven to be true appointment viewing that fans cannot get enough of week to week,” Jordan Helman, Head of Scripted Content at Hulu Originals, said in a statement. “The lives of these characters, as portrayed by the immensely talented cast led by Hilary Duff, are just starting to unfold and we’re thrilled to bring more of this group’s journey to our viewers with a supersized second season.”

Starring Hilary Duff as Sophie, How I Met Your Father “catapults us back to the year 2021, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, and what they want out of life and how to fall in the love in the age of dating apps and timeless options.” Kim Cattrall also stars as the older version of Sophie, a character similar to the role played by Bob Saget in the parent series. The show also stars Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Suraj Sharma, Tom Ainsley, and Tien Tran.

“Kids, I’m going to tell you an incredible story. It’s the story of how two writers got lucky enough to make their dream TV show for nine seasons and now get to pass the torch to an inspired new creative team with their own incredible story to tell; the story of How I Met Your Father,” writers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas said when the show was greenlit. “We are honored by their passion and vision, and look forward to helping them tell a legendary new story.”

“It’s been really interesting, because we’re the first multi-cam that Hulu has ever made,” Aptaker told TVLine before the series was officially renewed. “We’re figuring out what an old-school sitcom looks like on [streaming], and in terms of season length [on broadcast], you usually do 22-24 episodes. We don’t need to do that, so we’re able to map out these really intricate, 10-episode puzzles.”

Of potentially getting longer seasons moving forward, Berger added, "We did 10, which obviously is very normal in this model, but it also flies by. We did our 10 and went, ‘Oh my God, that was quick for multi-cam. We could have done a couple more,’ so I think we’ll take that into consideration.”

It's not yet clear when season 2 will premiere. You can catch the first season of How I Met Your Father on Hulu.
