DreamWorks Animation /how-to-train-your-dragon-2-officially-announced/announced in October that How to Train Your Dragon 2 would be hitting theaters in 2013. Director Dean DeBlois recently revealed that Gerard Butler has signed a deal to return as Stoick the Vast. Several of the original cast members had already committed to the sequel, with Gerard Butler being one of the last to return.

Dean DeBlois also revealed more about the storyline for this upcoming sequel.

"What I presented to them was the second act of a much larger story. So the film takes on much more breadth, it's really quite epic. We leave the first film with these Vikings on the backs of dragons, so the world just opens up and expands exponentially."

Dean DeBlois went onto confirm that cinematographer Roger Deakins will serve as a lighting consultant, like he did on the original How to Train Your Dragon.

There is no word on when production will start on How to Train Your Dragon 2.
