Picking a favorite superhero movie takes some thought for Logan star Hugh Jackman, but as a big Christopher Nolan fan, it's got to be a part of the Dark Knight trilogy. For two decades, Jackman has been synonymous with the X-Men character Wolverine after his long-running role as Logan. It was recently announced that Jackman will reprise his Logan role once again for the upcoming sequel Deadpool 3 as well, bringing him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for at least one film.

Jackman might be a Marvel guy in his career, but as a fan, he prefers a particular DC superhero most of all. In a new chat with Variety, Jackman was put on the spot when he was asked to name his absolute favorite superhero movie. After first narrowing it down to the Dark Knight series, based on his love for Nolan, Jackman winds up going with The Dark Knight. As the actor puts it, it was the original live-action Superman movie when he was a kid, but considering everything he's seen since then, Christian Bale's Batman rises to the top.

"My favorite superhero movie... Growing up, the first Superman. That was a game-changer. Dick Donner movie, Christopher Reeve. I'm gonna say, I'm thinking one of the Nolan Batmans... Dark Knight. I'm gonna go Dark Knight."

The Dark Knight trilogy consisted of three installments. It began with Batman Begins in 2005, followed by The Dark Knight in 2008 and The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. The Dark Knight in particular is highly regarded as not just one of the very best superhero adaptations, but one of cinema history's best movies ever made. In addition to bringing back Bale as Batman, the film is also notable for featuring the Oscar-winning performance by late actor Heath Ledger as the Joker.

Hugh Jackman Will Return as Wolverine

Logan
20th Century Fox

He might be a Batman fan, but Jackman is still forever associated with Wolverine. That is the case despite the fact that Jackman had retired from playing the role after 2017's Logan, insisting at the time that he was finished with the character. Still, Ryan Reynolds had held out hope that he'd get Jackman to return as Logan one last time for a third Deadpool movie. Jackman has since explained what it took to get him to change his mind and return as Wolverine.

"I went to a screening of Deadpool. I was 20 minutes in, and I was like, 'Ah, damn it!'" Jackman told Variety, finally seeing the potential in a Logan & Deadpool mashup. "All I kept seeing in my head was 48 Hrs. with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. So it's been brewing for a long time. It just took me longer to get here."

Deadpool 3 will be released on Nov. 8, 2024.
