Hugh Jackman revealed during a press conference for Prisoners that he has signed on for a role in Neill Blomkamp's Chappie. While he wouldn't give any character specifics, here's what he had to say at the Zurich Film Festival, where he is receiving the Golden Icon Award.

"I am doing a role in Neill's new film, called Chappie, which we shoot in Johannesburg. I'm there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year."

The story centers on an android, voiced by Sharlto Copley, who is captured and re-programmed by two South African gangsters (Die Antwoord's Ninja Visser and Yolandi Visser) for their own nefarious purposes. Bleeding Cool adds that they believe Hugh Jackman is playing a resourceful CEO who ends up on the wrong side of these gangsters. Dev Patel also stars in an unspecified role.

Neill Blomkamp is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Terri Tatchell. We reported last month that Sony Pictures issues a March 27, 2015 release date.
