X-Men star Hugh Jackman has further teased his return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, describing the upcoming sequel as “Wolverine 10.” Speaking with People, Jackman could barely contain his excitement over sharing the screen with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, with the actor looking forward to “punching the s*** out of each other the whole time.”

"It’s gonna be a blast! We like to call it Wolverine 10. That’s what I like to call it. I think being on set with [Ryan] every day and those two on film in every city together everyday...I think it’s fair to say they’ll be punching the shit out of each other the whole time."

Despite movie fans thinking that we had seen the last of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the 2017 critically acclaimed comic book outing Logan, Ryan Reynolds took to social media in September to reveal that we were wrong. Thus, Deadpool 3 will see Jackman once again don the spiky hair and claws of the beloved Marvel character, with Jackman expecting to have the most fun he has ever had as Wolverine in the Deadpool threequel.

"All jokes aside, I’ll probably have more fun on this movie than any other I’ve ever done."

Ryan Reynolds has wanted to bring a Deadpool/Wolverine adventure to the big screen for some time. And with Deadpool 3, he will finally see his wish come true. Since announcing Jackman’s return, the pair have appeared together to answer some burning questions. Revealing that Deadpool 3 will not step on the toes of the emotional ending of Logan (“Logan takes place in 2029. Totally separate thing. Logan died in Logan. Not touching that,”) the footage concludes with the pair paying tribute to Marvel Studios and with Jackman saying, “Love you, Kevin Feige. Thank you, MCU.”

Wolverine & Deadpool Should Have Plenty of Time to Punch Each Other in Deadpool 3

Should the rumored plot of Deadpool 3 turn out to be accurate, Wolverine and Deadpool will have plenty of time to punch and tear chunks out of each other. While details of Deadpool 3 remain largely under wraps, it seems likely that the sequel will follow Wade Wilson and Logan as they embark on a road trip. This general outline is something that Reynolds teased back when the Disney/Fox merger was finalized, with the actor revealing that the plan for Deadpool 3 was to center on “a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style.”

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has suggested his own ideas regarding how a Wolverine versus Deadpool battle should go. "Wouldn't we just watch them drive across America? Wouldn't we just watch them walk through a mall? They both have a healing factor. I can see a healing factor one-off. I can see a healing factor one-off where the two of them decapitate one another and regrow limbs,” Liefeld said last month. “Or at the very least, Wolverine slices generous pieces of Deadpool off. You saw what they did today when they re-enacted the katanas. They're giving us the memes. I was thinking, 'How many times did they rehearse that? Did they get that in one take? Two takes?"

Directed by Shawn Levy and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, Deadpool 3 is now scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
