Last month, it was rumored that Universal Pictures may be promoting its upcoming action-adventure The Huntsman: Winter's War during Super Bowl 50, which made sense since we hadn't gotten any new footage since the first trailer debuted back in November. As it turned out, the studio didn't shell out $5 million to promote the movie during the big game, but, just yesterday, Universal did unveil a second trailer, which teased the war between Charlize Theron's Ravenna and Emily Blunt's Freya, two sisters vying for the same throne. Today, Universal has released a 60-second TV spot, which shows how these sisters were once inseparable before they engaged in warfare.

This story is set several years before 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, with Chris Hemsworth returning as the Huntsman, although Kristen Stewart is not coming back as Snow White. Long before the evil Queen Ravenna was thought vanquished by Snow White's blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya, suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom. With Freya's ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen, including Eric (Chris Hemsworth and warrior Sara (Jessica Chastain). Only now she has found that her prized two have defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.

When Freya The Ice Queen learns of her sister's demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power. But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it's ever seen. Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable...unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen's cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another. In The Huntsman: Winter's War, it will be revealed that Eric and Ravenna's destinies are deeply and dangerously intertwined.

The supporting cast also includes Sam Claflin, Sophie Cookson, Colin Morgan, Nick Frost, Sheridan Smith and Rob Brydon. The Huntsman: Winter's War is set to hit theaters on April 22, where it will be the only major studio release that weekend, although it is sandwiched between two jam-packed frames. On April 15, The Jungle Book, Barbershop: The Next Cut, Criminal and Everybody Wants Some will hit theaters, with Keanu, Mother's Day, Ratchet & Clank and Same Kind of Different as Me arriving in April 29.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan makes his directorial debut with The Huntsman: Winter's War. But it's not the first time he's wondered through these woods. The filmmaker previously served as the VFX supervisor for Snow White and the Huntsman. And the film is in the hands of producer Joe Roth, who is responsible for Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland. Take a look at the new TV spot for The Huntsman: Winter's War, and stay tuned for more footage in the weeks and months ahead.
