A highly anticipated sequel is about to add a new pirate to the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ian McShane is in negotiations to join the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

If McShane does sign on, he will play the iconic pirate Blackbeard, whose birth name was Edward Teach and skippered the boat Queen Anne's Revenge. McShane would join Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Penelope Cruz, who we recently reported would join the cast as a nemesis to Sparrow.

Rob Marshall is directing the film from a script by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, which is said to focus on the legendary Fountain of Youth. The film is currently set for a May 20, 2011 release date.
