Idris Elba is in talks to star in Warner Bros.' King Arthur project, which has been given the new title Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.

The actor will portray Bedivere, who serves as the right hand man to Arthur's father, and is tasked with teaching Arthur how to lead an army. The title character has not been cast at this time, but testing for the coveted role will begin in August.

We reported in April that Warner Bros. has issued a July 22, 2016 release date for Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, a fantasy re-telling of the King Arthur legend that will be the first in a proposed six-movie series.

Guy Ritchie (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) is directing from a script by Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow), with the writer also serving as a producer alongside Lionel Wigram, Akiva Goldsman and Tory Tunnell. No production schedule has been given at this time.

The project reunites Idris Elba with director Guy Ritchie, who both worked together on RocknRolla. The actor also voices Shere Khan in Disney's upcoming animated adaptation The Jungle Book, and he is also attached to star in the action-thriller Bastille Day.
