According to Variety, IFC Films has acquired domestic theatrical rights to Matthew Barney's latest feature, Drawing Restraint 9, which stars the filmmaker-artist and his Icelandic pop-star wife Bjork.

Bjork composed the score to the pic, a love story with minimal dialogue centering on two guests who board a Japanese whaling ship in Nagasaki Bay.

Barney, whose credits include the five-film Cremaster cycle, is known for his theatrical visuals, which in the new pic include a tanker filled with liquid petroleum jelly, a parade of animals and a tea ceremony in which Barney and Bjork wear costumes inspired by Shinto marriage rites.

The pic is the latest piece in Barney's Restraint series, which has consisted so far of visual art and live performances only. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art will show a companion sculpture exhibit in June.
