IFC Films has picked up a new prescription for a feature film. According to Variety, the studio has secured the disribution rights for Medicine for the Melancholy. The film was written and directed by Barry Jenkins and the film is set to screen at the Los Angeles Film Festival this week.

The drama, set in San Francisco, will revolve around a young man and woman who take a stroll through the city the morning after they hook up and confront their own racial issues in this urban setting. The film stars Wyatt Cenac and Tracy Heggins.

While a release date hasn't been set, IFC is planning on releasing the film in 2009 under its day-and-date theatrical/video on-demand simultaneous platform.
