Your mom's favorite TV show is finally coming to the big screen. After 7 very popular seasons and counting, the Impractical Jokers Movie is officially happening. The news comes just as the gang get renewed for an 8th season.
truTV has officially renewed Impractical Jokers for 26 more episodes. But the bigger news is that they'll be going to work on their first-ever feature film, which could hit theaters as early as 2019. The movie is being produced by Funny or Die, and will be directed by Chris Henchy.
James "Murr" Murray, Brian "Q" Quinn, Joe Gatto, and Sal Vulcano comprise the comedy troupe of jokesters. They are also often referred to as The Tenderloins. These longtime friends have made a living out of hassling one another on the small screen, and they have quite a following that encompasses all-ages. So don't expect them to go raw and raunchy in an R-rated outting. This will be PG-13 at it's most hardcore.
The four men have amassed fans all around the world, always coming across as genuine, relatable and endearing. And they're never mean-spirited. It's all done in pure fun. Said Chris Linn, president of truTV had this to say.
"The Jokers' authentic friendship has endeared them to millions of fans around the world, creating one of the most original brands in all of television. We're incredibly proud of the partnership we've developed with the guys throughout the years, and the growing, multi-platform success of the Impractical Jokers brand."
The 26 new episodes being produced for Impractical Jokers Season 8 will keep the show on the air through 2019. This will bring the total number of episodes up to 237. The 200th episode of the show is already set to air, with a premiere date locked in for 2019.
NorthSouth Productions produces the series alongside executive producers Charlie DeBevoise, Pete McPartland Jr., Gatto, Murray, Quinn, and Vulcano. The Impractical Jokers movie begins shooting this spring, and is just a few weeks away from rolling. The movie will revolve around a humiliating high school mishap that took place in 1992.
"The Impractical Jokers go on the road competing in hidden camera challenges for the chance to turn back the clock and redeem three of the four."
The film will be produced by Gatto, Murray, Quinn, Vulcano, Henchy and Funny Or Die's Jim Ziegler. Marissa Ronca will be executive producing on behalf of truTV, alongside Jack Rovner and Funny Or Die's Mike Farah and Joe Farrell.
