The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth has been offered a starring role in Independence Day 2, according to The Wrap. No details were given for the actor's character, but it has also been rumored that Michael B. Jordan has a role. Independence Day stars Jeff Goldblum and Randy Quaid may also return as David Levinson and Russell Casse, respectively, but their involvement has yet to be confirmed.

No story details have been released at this time, but Carter Blanchard (Glimmer) recently signed on to rewrite the original script by James Vanderbilt (White House Down). Will Smith will not be returning as Stephen Hiller, but, along with Jeff Goldblum and Randy Quaid, Bill Pullman is also expected to return as Thomas J. Whitmore. Roland Emmerich is set to direct, with the filmmaker also producing alongside Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser.
