Exciting news for both Independence Day and Vivica A. Fox fans! The actress is set to reprise her role as stripper-turned-alien freedom fighter Jasmine Dubrow in the upcoming sequel Independence Day 2. The news was announced by both director Roland Emmerich and the actress herself, who provides a nice collage of images from her previous stint as Jasmine.

Independence Day 2 is already set with a June 24, 2016 release date. Shooting is expected to begin this summer, with original star Jeff Goldblum also returning as David Levinson. New cast members include Jessie Usher, who is playing the son of Will Smith's Captain Steven Hiller, though it has not been confirmed that Jasmine is his mother. Liam Hemsworth will play the son-in-law of Bill Pullman's President Thomas J. Whitmore. And singer Charlotte Gainsbourg is playing an as-yet unrevealed character. Bill Pullman is expected to return, but has not yet been confirmed.

Independence Day 2 was written by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, with James Vanderbilt contributing and Carter Blanchard turning in the most recent draft. No official story details have been released, but it is believed to pick up with the survivors of a devastating alien attack 20 years after their initial triumph over the invaders. It has also been rumored that Randy Quaid, who seemingly died in the original, will be back in some capacity, but that has not yet been officially confirmed either.
