With production currently under way on Independence Day 2, it was only a matter of time before the first set photo surfaced. Earlier today, producer Dean Devlin took to his Instagram page to share the first photo from the set featuring himself alongside original Independence Day star Jeff Goldblum. Here's what the producer had to say about the reunion below.

"Hanging with David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) 20 years later is a dream come true! #IndependenceDay"

Jeff Goldblum is one of many Independence Day stars to reprise their roles for the sequel, including Vivica A. Fox (Jasmine Dubrow), Brent Spiner (Dr. Brackish Okun), Bill Pullman (Thomas J. Whitmore) and Judd Hirsch (Julius Levinson). They will be joined by new cast members Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope, Joey King, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward as the new President of the United States. Very few plot details have been released thus far, but Vivica A. Fox revealed last week that the sequel is set 15 years after the original, and the aliens do come back.

Roland Emmerich is directing from a screenplay by Carter Blanchard, based on characters created by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are also producing alongside Harald Kloser. The original Independence Day earned over $876 million worldwide during its theatrical run in 1996. Can the sequel top that when it hits theaters nearly 20 years later, on June 24, 2016? Take a look at the first set photo, and chime in with your thoughts below.
