The Licensing Expo 2015 is in full effect right now, with every major studio bombarding Las Vegas with a look at their latest offerings. One of the most anticipated movies making a scene at the event is Independence Day 2, and today we get a look at the first teaser poster. The image is iconic, and recalls the original marketing strategy of Independence Day, which stormed theaters in 1996. Only this time, the aliens return with complete global decimation on their minds.

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction in Independence Day 2.

The first teaser poster certainly captures the essence of the plot synopsis previously released by 20th Century Fox. It should be noted that this poster is strikingly similar to a piece of fan art that has been around for awhile, which we've included below. Roland Emmerich returns to direct this follow-up, with many of the original cast returning as well, including Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch. Take a look at the teaser, which comes courtesy of Collider. What do you think? Does Independence Day 2 have what it takes to become the next great sequel?
