Last week, we reported that 20th Century Fox has "big plans" during Super Bowl 50 for Independence Day: Resurgence, a sequel that's 20 years in the making. Stars Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum are expected to be in attendance during today's big game, and the studio has a number of on the ground events planned to promote this epic adventure. As expected, part of these plans included the launch of a new trailer chocked full of previously unseen footage. In case you weren't tuning in to Super Bowl 50, or just want to see it again, we have the full trailer below.

From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, 1996's Independence Day shattered opening weekend and total box office records, becoming the year's top-grossing film. It also became the first movie in history to gross over $500 million internationally. But Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back.

After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

The film brings back original stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner. Newcomers include Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Angelababy and Sela Ward. When Independence Day: Resurgence begins, we will learn that a small squad of Alien resistance fighters still survive in an isolated area of the African Congo. Though, the majority of the alien threat has been neutralized around the world.

Earth has risen from the ashes. And a grand reconstruction has started as the great cities, monuments and landmarks of the world are slowly restored to their former glory. It is now twenty years after that initial attack. And the aliens are coming back ready for revenge. Take a look at the new Super Bowl trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence below, and stay tuned for more as we get closer to the June 24 release date.
